A RUSSIAN interpreter is bringing a touch of Glasnost to Clwyd schools.
Mr Peter Reznikov. has been visiting high- school pupils in a bid to teach them about Russian values, the language, history and politics.
Clwyd Education Authority has employed Mr Reznikov for a year to tour schools and pass on tips to pupils. Holywell High School invited him to talk to its sixth- form students studying A-Level American ana Russian politics.
The head of history, Mr Jeff Collins, said “The pupils have got a lot out of this visit We can study text books but, with all the changes in the country, they become redundant the minute we get them.
“This way they can learn about the experiences of living in Russia first hand. They are learning why and how the Soviet Union has disintegrated and what the problems are. We are very pleased to have him here.”
Mr Reznikov said: “It has been a great experience being able to talk to the pupils like this. I have been trying to talk to them about Russia’s problems, but the British are very reserved.
The older pupils ask more questions — they are much more advanced. I have been enjoying my time here very much.”
